Assessing the climate change adaptation over four European cities

چکیده
Abstract In recent years, climate change has been widely recognized as a potential problem. The building industry is taking variety of actions towards sustainable development and mitigation, such retrofitting buildings. More than it important to account for adaptation investigate the probable risks limits mitigation strategies. For example, one major challenge may become achieving low energy demand without compromising indoor thermal comfort during warm seasons. This work investigates future performance four European cities belonging different zones in Europe; Barcelona, Koln, Brussels, Copenhagen. An ensemble scenarios used, including thirteen considering five general circulation models (GCM) three representative concentration pathways (RCP 2.6, RCP 4.5 8.5). Through simulating buildings each city several scenarios, this paper provides comprehensive picture about near-term, medium-term, long-term conditions.

Adaptation to Climate Change in the European Union
EU climate policy is based on GHG emissions reduction (mitigation), coupled with measures aimed at responding efficiently to the unavoidable consequences of climate change (adaptation). However, as the European Commission recently stated in its Green Paper on adaptation in Europe, there is still a need to develop an overall EU adaptation strategy. Moreover, such a strategy should take into cons...
متن کاملChanges in population susceptibility to heat and cold over time: assessing adaptation to climate change
BACKGROUND In the context of a warming climate and increasing urbanisation (with the associated urban heat island effect), interest in understanding temperature related health effects is growing. Previous reviews have examined how the temperature-mortality relationship varies by geographical location. There have been no reviews examining the empirical evidence for changes in population suscepti...
متن کاملHealth Aspects of Climate Change in Cities with Mediterranean Climate, and Local Adaptation Plans
Cities with a Mediterranean-type climate (Med-cities) are particularly susceptible to health risks from climate change since they are located in biogeographical hot-spots that experience some of the strongest effects of the changing climate. The study aims to highlight health impacts of climate change in Med-cities, analyze local climate adaptation plans and make adaptation policy recommendatio...
متن کاملAdaptation to Climate Change
We investigate the effect of climate change on population growth in 18th and 19th century Iceland. We find that annual temperature changes help determine the population growth rate in preindustrial Iceland: a year 1◦C cooler than average drives down population growth rates by 0.57% in each of the next two years, for a total effect of 1.14%. We also find that 18th and 19th century Icelanders ada...
